I walked around feeling like the weakest person in the room for the majority of my life. I remember feeling severe anxiety when I had to do anything physical in school because I never felt like I was capable. I felt like what came so naturally to the other kids was impossible for me. I felt trapped in a body I hated, and I had no idea how to motivate myself to get better.
There were times that I slept more than 12 hours a day due to my chronic depression and fatigue. When I was 16, I decided to learn as much as I could about health and nutrition in order to gain more energy and feel good about myself. That was the beginning of my health journey.
My initiation into fitness began when I was 19. I started with bodybuilding and powerlifting in a typical gym setting. I learned a great deal about what it takes to become strong, muscular, and fit and eventually I became certified as a personal trainer. A few years later, I ditched the gym and was still suffering from low energy and depression. I was eating a diet that wasn't suited for my body, and I was constantly battling illness and fatigue. Once I changed my diet to match my physiology, my health made a 180-degree turnaround. I had energy, motivation, and I was ready to get in shape. More specifically, I wanted to feel strong and cultivate a sustainable fitness routine that would turn me into a well-rounded athlete.
For several years, I immersed myself in natural movement disciplines, such as calisthenics, yoga, parkour, and gymnastics. With my diet in check, I was able to get into much better shape than I ever achieved at the gym. However, I was dealing with chronic pain due to my training which left me feeling unmotivated about my practice and how I was training my clients.
In 2018, I took a deep dive into Functional Patterns training and discovered a system that takes into account the biological priorities for human movement. Using this system, I've been able to more effectively help my clients meet their goals and work successfully with a wider range of clients. It has also enabled me to avoid the joint pain associated with gymnastics and yoga training. In 2019 I became a certified Functional Patterns Human Foundations Practitioner, and in 2020 I became certified as a Human Biomechanics Specialist.
I believe everyone is capable of developing a body that looks great and allows them the freedom to enjoy life. It's my mission to promote the unparalleled benefits of Functional Patterns for the pursuit of optimal health.
"I wish I lived close enough to experience training from someone so focused and dedicated. Due to distance, Courtney has focused on nutrition and lifestyle coaching with me. She takes the time to truly educate so that I understand my struggles and how to permanently resolve them. When I'm feeling discouraged I know exactly who to call and each conversation leaves me with a deeper understanding of my goals and how to reach them. Courtney has helped me rid my body of chronic inflammation and pain simply by changing the way I eat. This experience has given me back my life!"
"Highly motivated and very knowledgable trainer! Got me into the best shape of my life. Also kept me on track with food items and supplements and was supportive of anything I needed. A+"
